In a previous update it added a new level of security for PS3 sign-ins, requiring users to authorise via another linked device. The new restrictions are designed to improve account security as Sony moves away from legacy systems. If you want to continue using PlayStation Network features such as browsing the store or playing games online then you’ll need to install it. PS3 system update 4.89 is now available to download, whether playing on new “Super Slim” hardware or an OG phat model.
